Well, after well-below-freezing temps, the weather is warm enough to see moisture on the streets and sidewalks. I’m sure more cold weather will be visiting in Minnesota in the months to come, but for now I can enjoy a lighter coat and not freezing as I walk from car into office building.
I’ve been enjoying some good books: The Man Who Walked in the Dark by Anthony Eichenlaub is an upcoming scienc efiction novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. The world building is amazing and the not detective feel was a lot of fun. I also finished a a book called Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett that offers a fascinating take on magic which is code inscribed on objects. Lots of twists and turns and a fascinating, if scary world.
Then there are several mysteries where young people wind up in dangeous games involving death: Their Vicious Games is a chance for brilliant students to win the support of an elite family; Liar’s Beach is a poor high school student visiting a classmate on Martha’s Vineyard; and the Lake House is three young women who go to spend time at an island camp – only to discover the camp has burned down, someone has been murdered, and they are stranded without provisions. You can tell the weather has convinced me curling up with a book is a better option than venturing into dangerous windchills.
I hope you’re finding some good books or other entertainment. Isn’t there a little thing like the Super Bowl fast approaching? Or the Oscars? Let’s have some fun during the cold winter months. (Or warmer for you, perhaps…)
