Several of us drove down to Red Wing, Minnesota today. They have the largest boot in the world and free selfies of people with the boot. They shoes are amazing and the history of the company is fun to read about. Lots of displays.
Then we headed over to the Goodhue Historical Museum. It was fabulous collection of historical materials about indigenous people, historical Red Wing businesses and personalities. I loved seeing the old kitchen implements, dolls, and medical displays. The past can be fascinating. The displays made me think about how much things have changed.
The pace of change has picked up in our modern world with cell phones, artificial inteligence, and all the technology, but we still struggle with some basics: food, shelter, dishes, and kitchen implements. The small gopher hugging a football, the pottery designs, the old-time ads talking about the quality of beer.
Seasons still shift–the temperature was near freezing and the car’s systems helpfully warned me that roads coudl be icy (they weren’t). I declined to drive the narrow, serpentine path up to Sorin’s Bluff, which was probably a good decision for me based on the Google image of what the road would have been.
Red Wing was totally charming, a nice one-day trip.
